Description: Remarkable improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) suggest that within the next generation non-human systems will be able to perform many basic activities and services just as effectively and more efficiently than human beings.   As AI entities approach some form of self-consciousness some have wondered what it will mean to be human.  In this talk I ask that and a prior question: why do we want to be human in the first place?
