Ten medical students selected to receive awards from the National Medical Foundation

Congratulations to Gianna Ramos, MS4, who has been selected as a California Community Service-Learning Program Scholar by the National Medical Fellowships organization!   This prestigious award is presented to qualified California medical students who demonstrate leadership and commitment to medically underserved communities in California and who seek the opportunity to conduct a self-directed community health project under the direction of a site mentor.  Ms. Ramos is currently the Vice Chair of the National Medical Fellowship’s Young Leadership Council and is completing her dual Master’s degree program in Social Work and Public Health as a part of the PRIME-LA program at the David Geffen School of Medicine.

 

Congratulations to Edgar Corona, MS4, who has been selected as a California HealthCare Foundation Scholar by the National Medical Fellowships organization!  This prestigious award is presented annually to a qualified California medical student who exhibits leadership and a commitment to working with underserved communities.  Mr. Corona is currently a Master of Public Health Student at the Harvard, H.H. Chan School of Public Health as a part of the PRIME-LA program at the David Geffen School of Medicine. Mr. Corona is committed to addressing health inequities in Latino underserved communities.  He is currently Director Elect of the Latino Medical Student Association – West Region.

 

Congratulations to Frederick Ferguson, MS3, who has been selected as a Neighborhood Diabetes Education Program Scholar by the National Medical Fellowships organization!  This prestigious service-learning award is presented annually to a qualified medical or nursing student who exhibits a commitment to adult diabetes management.  Mr. Ferguson is the Co-President of the Charles R. Drew University Student Council and Secretary of the UCLA/CDU Student National Medical Association.

 

Congratulations to Lauren Gibbs, MS3, who has been selected as a Neighborhood Diabetes Education Program Scholar by the National Medical Fellowships organization!  This prestigious service-learning award is presented annually to a qualified medical or nursing student who exhibits a commitment to adult diabetes management. Ms. Gibbs is the UCLA/CDU Student National Medical Association Coordinator for mentorship events and provides feedback for the CDU Partnership for Progress.

 

Congratulations to Marlene Lopez, Christopher Martin, Marcos Munoz, Miriam Ramos Rodriguez, Alexander Soto, and Mikiko Thelwell, all second year medical students, who have been selected as Primary Care Leadership Program (PCLP) Scholars by the National Medical Fellowships organization!  The Primary Care Leadership Program (PCLP) is unique in its emphasis on primary care leadership and practice within the community health context and its focus on the healthcare teams that will deliver care in the future.  The PCLP Scholars actively engage in leadership training, site-based service learning projects, and healthcare delivery.  Scholars are inducted into a network of organizations and individuals from partner community health centers, academic institutions, program advisors and mentors, and National Medical Fellowship alumni.
