New Cannabidiol Study Recruiting Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

The UCLA Division of Rheumatology is recruiting for a pilot study titled “Therapeutic Response of Cannabidiol in Rheumatoid Arthritis.” This is a 16-week long study examining the safety and efficacy of cannabidiol (CBD) oral capsules in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

The research team is looking for participants who:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Diagnosis of RA
  • Have been on stable RA medications for 3 months
  • Are not taking cannabis or CBD products for 28 days prior to enrollment and throughout their participation in the study
  • No history of substance abuse disorders

Participants will be assigned to one of three study groups: CBD 200 mg twice per day, CBD 400 mg twice per day, or placebo (no CBD). Physicians and participants will not know the participant’s assigned study group.

Participants will complete at least 4 in-person study visits (screening/baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks after screening/baseline) where physical and ultrasound examinations, laboratory tests, and questionnaires will be administered. A follow-up phone call will be performed remotely at 16 weeks after screening/baseline. Participants will receive $100 per completed in-person study visit and receive study medication, labs, and ultrasound exams free of cost.

If you are interested in this study, please call or email us below. If you choose to contact us by email, please do not include any sensitive information in your email because the confidentiality of emails cannot be guaranteed.
