New study for the treatment of latent CMV infection in HIV positive adults at UCLA.

Chronic inflammation may increase risk of aging-related complications in people with HIV. This inflammation may also add to the persistence of the HIV viral reservoir despite HIV treatment. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is common and present without symptoms in many people. This study will see if treating CMV in people with HIV on treatment decreases inflammation.

Basic eligibility criteria:

  • Age 40 or older
  • HIV positive
  • On continuous HIV treatment (antiretroviral therapy) for at least 48 weeks
  • Undetectable HIV viral load for at least 48 weeks
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Positive antibody test for CMV (the study will perform the test)
